Why don’t children respect their parents?
This is something all of us need to carefully think about. Children are like candles. Every behavior they see with their eyes and every word they hear automatically leaves an impression on their hearts.
If, in a family, the parents do not respect each other or fail to show gratitude, the child begins to think, “This is normal.”
For example:
- If the father ignores the mother and does whatever he wants, or
- If the mother speaks to the father disrespectfully in front of others,
Then the child learns from these behaviors how to treat one parent.
When children see such disrespectful behaviors every day, they begin to think, “Oh, so this is acceptable.” At that point, disrespecting their parents and prioritizing only their own needs becomes normal for them.
In truth, nothing else is more important for teaching children to respect their parents than this: parents themselves must show respect to each other.
If a child grows up seeing mutual respect between parents, then naturally, they too will grow up to be someone who shows respect.
